DIALYSIS
A 49 y.o. white male admitted to the Medical Intensive Care Unit for evaluation of worsening renal function, metabolic disorders and electrolyte abnormalities. The patient had increasing oliguria prior to admittance. Creatinine levels were very high suggesting acute kidney failure. Two days after admission, the patient was electively intubated due to increasing respiratory distress and placed on a Nellcor Puritan Bennett 7200 ventilator. The patient was started on hemodialysis in order to treat the patient's metabolic abnormalities and remove 1- 2 kg of fluid accumulation.
