Objectives

After reading the material and viewing short clips the participant will be able to…

  1. Recognize indications for partial liquid lung ventilation;
  2. Recognize the complications that can occur with partial liquid lung ventilation
  3. Discuss the effects of perfluorcarbons
  4. Identify other potential uses of PFC besides PLV
  5. Differentiate between normal/diseased lungs and those filled with PFC on CXR
  6. Describe total liquid ventilation and partial liquid ventilation
  7. Explain appropriate dosage of PFC
  8. Identify when changes are needed with ventilator patients receiving PLV
  9. Discuss the benefits and outcomes of patients on PLV
