RDS Objectives

The participant will be able to:

  1. Identify the risk factors for RDS.
  2. Explain the pathophysiology of RDS.
  3. Describe the clinical diagnosis of RDS.
  4. Recognize the typical finding of an RDS CXR.
  5. Explain why surfactant replacement is an essential treatment for RDS.
  6. Explain why high-frequency oscillatory ventilation is effective in the treatment of RDS.
  7. Identify pharmacologic support.
