Digital Photobiology Compendium

DPC Visitors' Page

Welcome to the Digital Photobiology Compendium (DPC).
This page will tell you a little about the DPC and the concept of Digital Compendia, in general. It will also direct you to other sections of the DPC that may be appropriate for your interests.

The DPC is the first of a new kind of educational tool. In a very general sense it replaces a set of books in the field of photobiology. However, the DPC is more than the digital equivalent of a set of books. Yes, it will create a variety of pre-defined Works, including a Basic Textbook, a Laboratory Manual, a History of Photobiology, as well as in-depth monographs in each of the dozen or so subspecialty areas of photobiology. But, the DPC can also be used to create entirely new custom-designed Works. These Works will string together individual learning modules, much as if you could collect chapters from any book in a library to create a book that was designed just for you - that covered only the topics that you needed.

The heart of the DPC is its matrix of learning modules, organized in a logical fashion to make it easy to find just the material of interest. Learning modules, complete with the latest interactive features to fully engage the learner, are the elements in this matrix. To facilitate creation of meaningful Works, each of the approximately 100 learning modules in the DPC will specify prerequisites, so that modules will only assemble into logical sequences.

Where do I go from here?

The answer to this question depends on what you want to do with the DPC:

Learners

Instructors

Developers

If you are a student or anyone who needs to learn more about photobiology, you'll want to go to the Learners' pages where you'll be able to access Works, join discussions about the material, or send questions to experts.

If you would like to design a custom- work for your class, or just assign a standard Work for your class, the Instructors' pages are appropriate for you. Here you'll also be able to contact other instructors who are teaching similar material. Do you have an idea for a learning module in photobiology? Would you like to help build the DPC? The Developers' pages are for you. With the goal of creating, evaluating and refining approximately 100 learning modules in 3 years, the DPC needs content specialists in photobiology who can help guide module development.
