Bone & Joint Structure: Metacarpals

The base of the metacarpals articulate with the distal row of carpals. The geometry of each of the metacarpals is unique to the articulation with the individual carpal bones. The base of the second metacarpal articulates with the trapezoid, trapezium, and capitate. The base of the third metacarpal articulates with the capitate. The base of the fourth metacarpal articulates with the capitate and hamate. The heads of the second through fourth metacarpals are relatively convex.
