The intercarpal joints are the articulations
between the individual carpal bones. They are plane synovial joints. The
small amount of movement between the carpal bones at these joints contributes
to total wrist mobility. The carpals together form an arch in the tranverse
plane that is concave palmarly. This arch deepens with wrist flexion and
flattens with wrist extension.
