Collateral ligaments: from posterior tubercle and adjacent depression on the side of the metacarpal head to base of anterior phalanx–provides tranverse stability for MCP joint.

Volar plate: fibrocartilage plate fixed distally to base of phalanx and proximal neck of MCP bone attaches to deep tranverse metacarpal ligament, flexor sheath, and collateral ligaments; prevents hyperextension of the joint, increase mechanical advantage for flexor tendons

Oblique retinacular ligament- anterior surface of proximal phalanx and inserts on distal portion of lateral bands of extensor mechanism, important for flexion/extension mechanics of the proximal and distal finger joints.
