Return to Sensory Profile Measures
A sensory history is a questionnaire or interview format that enables professionals to obtain information about a person’s experiences with sensory input during every day life. Some sensory histories are informal, and have been designed by therapists in their individual practice settings, while other sensory histories have been formalized and standardized, so that professionals can compare a person’s responses to a peer group. Occupational therapists and other professionals use sensory histories in their assessment plans because there is evidence that people with various disabilities have significantly different patterns of sensory processing when compared to their peers; there is some initial evidence that sensory processing pattern information can inform the intervention process.
