Return to the Sensory Profile Summary
What the score means: This child responds to sensory experiences in the mouth ‘definitely more than others’. For Oral Sensory processing, this means that the child responds ‘frequently’ to ‘occasionally’; children this age respond less often than this to experiences in their mouths.
Since all the cut scores on the Sensory Profile are based on the normal bell curve, ‘definitely more than others’ score means that the child responds more than about 98% of peers, about the same as 2% of peers. Go to the Bell Curve illustration to see how this works.
There is another way to look at this score for your personal
thinking. The Oral Sensory processing section of the Sensory Profile has a developmental trend, i.e., the cut scores are different for
younger and older children. Therefore, we can plot her raw score on the cut
scores for younger children; when we do this, we see whether the child’s
score is like scores received by younger children.
