HEDIS
(Health Plan Employer Data Information Set)
The HEDIS Information Sets are reports of outcomes from different managed
care organizations that can be compared. Employers are one of the largest
payers of health care bills in the United States. Employers "buy" health
plans or services when covering employees health care. Therefore employers
wanted to be able to compare the outcomes of managed care organizations,
HMO's, hospitals, doctors' practices, or other health care plans. Employers
successfully lobbied Congress to develop an organization that would collect
data on the Utililzation, Quality Care, Access to Care, Patient Satisfaction,
and Financial Stability of each organizations' health plan. To review the
goals and some of the information collected by HEDIS click
