NURSING CONTRACT FOR "PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION" BY
ELECTRONIC "CHAT" GROUP
Each of these noted nurse scholars will pose questions issues for discussion,
stimulate your thinking with comments and provide insights into challenges
facing our profession. Discussion of issues often brings forth emotional
reactions, debates, perspectives before unknown and possibly maybe uncomfortable
for you. Read
what others thought.
Your responsibility in the "chat" group is to prepare for the
discussion by reading references, speeches, internet sites/sources to gain
information about the topic. Remember e-mail is NOT
PRIVATE. Please use only your initials and always BEWARE
of subscribing. You must also be involved in the discussion and evaluation of
the group and complete the summary of your own gain knowledge from the
discussion.
You can then be involved by typing in your opinions. Sharing pertinent
sources of information, disagreeing with others, pointing out weaknesses in
arguments for or against the topic, identifying statements that over simplify
the issue, problem or solution, advocating a patient or community point of view
and maintaining cultural sensitivity. You are assigned to read all of the
discussion and to type into the discussion at least once a week.
The expectations and goals for your participation in this electronic
discussion group are:
Goals:
- Recognize the value of discussion on our nursing practice.
- Increase our access to worldwide nursing scholars.
- Consciously address each discussion question by
- partaking in discussion for four weeks,
- read all discussion and consider all others' points of view
providing constructive
criticism to others. Our Austalian counterparts have published
guidelines for giving and receiving
feedback.
- Type a summary of what you have learned in your e-mail discussion and
submit to the instructor. Click

Expectations:
- Participate in electronic discussion by typing in your opinions on the
discussion topic weekly.
- Maintain discussion focus on factual information and clinical examples.
- Be supportive to one another but provide useful comments on others'
opinions.
- Have the reading you do on the topic completed in time to reference for
your readings in some of the discussion you type in.
- Remember individuals' comments and discussion are private.
- Offer constructive criticism in a specific and positive manner.
- Read Discussion Announcements frequently.
Grading:
The Australian
system of grading will be used by the instructor for evaluating your
contributions to the online electronic discussion.
