Florence Nightingale's History of Research

KUMC's rare book library is fortunate to have many of Florence Nightingale's original letters.  They have copied these on the internet.

Read and follow these steps to complete the assignment. Then look at other areas of interest in the database.

  1. Once you have clicked on "KU Clendening Library Florence Nightingale Letters" below, you can review her original handwritten letter.
  2. Second, you will be able to click on alphabetical listings and review that.
  3. Third, scan through these and select either: Lt. Colonel George Higginson, Aug. 1857; Principal storekeeper, April, 1856; James Paget (undated); Miss Lucked, June, 1893; Unknown (undated); Mrs. Roe, March 1878; or Charles Shrimpton, May 1862. Each has examples of her early research.
  4. Fourth, type a few sentences into the discussion that briefly describes the epidemiology data you obtained in your search on Florence's internet pages.
