Course: NRSG 748: Theories: Bridge to Practice and Research
Credit Hours: 2 credit hours
Prerequisite: Admission to the graduate nursing program or consent of instructor

Course Description:

Theory development and analysis techniques provide the framework for the study of concepts and theories from nursing and related disciplines. These concepts and theories are used to guide therapeutic nursing interventions and research for individual, family, and community client systems. Systems theory and theories related to cultural environments are analyzed to assess and intervene for complex systems.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: 
  1. Examine  individual, family, and community client systems as they relate to world views and knowledge development in nursing science.
  2. Apply specific techniques of concept and theory analyses.
  3. Analyze cultural theories and their application to client systems.
Methodology:

This course is divided into four modules in which students complete reading assignments and on-line learning activities individually.

  • Module learning activities
  • Readings from required texts and journal articles
  • Computerized library search to facilitate completion of written concept analysis paper. 90% - 100% = A
