How do I use Netscape or Internet Explorer?
Browsing the web can be a more satisfying experience if you know more about the features of your web browser. This information will focus on using the web browsers Netscape and Internet Explorer. Other browsers may or may not incorporate all of the same functions.
Using Netscape
Your Netscape display has a row of Menus across the top. There will also be a row of Toolbar buttons just below these Menus. All of the Toolbar buttons are also found as options within Menus:

You will also see a Uniform Resource Locators (URL) displayed in the area entitled "Location." The Uniform Resource Locator is simply an address where individual web pages reside.
Frequently Used Netscape Features
There are several Netscape functions that are very useful for web navigation.
Back - takes you backwards one link at a time, back through the last few web pages you have looked at.
Forward - lets you navigate forwards through the links that you had already visited, then backed out of.
Reload - this feature lets you request a fresh copy of a web page.
Home - takes you back to the Home Page that you have designated in your browser.
Search - allows you to search for web pages with keywords.
Print - the Print feature allows you to print the current page to a printer connected to your computer.
Stop - stops the loading of a page; if you are waiting for a long time for a web page to appear, for instance, you can select Stop and the browser will stop loading it.
Bookmarks - a listing of your favorite websites.
Location - the address or URL of the current page.

Using Internet Explorer (IE)

Will I need any other software to complete the course?
Yes, you will need Adobe Acrobat plugin that works with Netscape and Internet Explorer. If you do not have these you can download them by clicking below.
You may also download these from the KU Software Download site if you use KUMC On-line as your Internet provider. The Student Computing CD, available from the ITC/ERC, also contains all the software needed for distance education courses.
Where can I get technical support for the course?
You can get help by calling KUMC IR Customer Support at 913-588-7995. This number is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A Network Specialist or Remote Access Specialist will take your call Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM through 11:30 PM. Calls outside of these hours will be taken by the Computer Room personnel. They will either resolve your problem or page the appropriate on-call technician.
You may also contact Customer Support 24 hours per day by sending an e-mail via on campus GroupWise or WebAccess at helpdesk@kumc.edu and they will answer your e-mail during normal working hours. (If you don't have mail services set up in your browser, go to the WebAccess Internet site (http://webmail.kumc.edu) and send a message from your GroupWise e-mail account.)
When sending an e-mail to Customer Support be sure to include the following: your name, your phone number, a detailed description of the problem, any error messages and the date and time the problem occurred.
