Course: NRSG 751 Theories for Practice I: Practicum

Course Description:

Selected theories and concepts are used in practice settings for understanding and describing the health and human functioning of individual, family, and group client systems, and as a guide to identifying therapeutic nursing interventions.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

    1. Identify critical attributes of concepts in the practice setting using an inductive method.
    2. Use selected theories and concepts to focus observations and assessments and formulate therapeutic interventions for client systems.
    3. Evaluate the relevance of selected theories for nursing practice and research with individual, family, and group client systems.

Methodology:

    1. Clinical practice consists of observation, assessment, documentation and analysis of a family (35 hours) and one health related small group observation (10 hours).
    2. Small group practicum seminars (15 hours) via threaded discussion will be used to discuss relevance of selected theory/concepts to students' clinical practice.

Evaluation:

Individual/family client system assessment 60%--Due 12-07-06
Group client system assessment 20%--Due 11-17-06
