1. The student will fulfill the minimum competencies of the Council on Accreditation for Nurse Anesthesia Educational Standards for Programs/Schools and the Council on Certification, the standards of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia Education and Graduate Education, University of Kansas, that have been prescribed by policy and curricula.


2.  The student will be able to plan and independently administer a safe and physiologic anesthetic, one based on a knowledge and synthesis of anesthetic principles and basic science study.


3.  The student will integrate the principles and activities of pre-anesthetic and post-anesthetic care with a studied evaluation of how an intraoperative management course will affect the total care of the patient.


4.  The student will critically assess and synthesize diverse clinical data into management parameters that result in a unified and coherent theoretical framework.


5.  The student will utilize all sources of clinical and theoretical data that help promote problem identification, prioritize patient needs, establish the anesthetic course and evaluate outcomes.


6.  The student will actively participate on the health care team in concert with other healthcare professionals, within a professional role as prescribed by law and dictated by credible self-evaluation.


7. The student will demonstrate an appreciation for the role, nature and conduct of various research modalities and their application to clinical practice and continued professional growth.


8. The student will demonstrate a conceptual knowledge of health care delivery systems, ethics, legislative and legal concerns that affect the scope and quality of nurse anesthesia practice.


9. The student will understand the importance of his/her participation in the professional organizations of nurse anesthetists at all levels.


10.The student will be proficient in the principles of adult learning as demonstrated by active participation in program planning, individualized study and responsible self-evaluation of personal study goals.
