We're going to
do a mini-concept analysis:
1. Look up the word "issue" in a dictionary (unabridged preferred) and write
down all
applicable definitions. Reflect about what you think an issue is. Also write
your "definition" of an issue.
2. List defining
characteristics of the term (the essential elements
that make it an issue; the subjective and objective information that makes
an issue an issue).
3. Now list all of the things that occur before
(antecedents) an issue can
exist (i.e., certain people are identified; certain people do something).
4. Now list all of the things that occur after (consequences)
an issue exists (i.e., positive and negative outcomes).
5. Write two (2) statements or questions expressing an issue you are thinking
of writing about for your paper/position statement. Be sure you express
BOTH sides in the issue statement or question (the pro
and con sides, or at least two different ways to view the topic).
6. Next, you will read about General Systems Theory. The paper/position
statement assigned for this course requires you to apply systems theory
to the issue and role you're writing about. Click here to read about General
Systems Theory. Then return here to describe what your issue and role
look like when you apply systems theory. Refer back to the General Systems
Theory page to see an example of how to apply the theory to a patient situation.
