I
am a KU grad, both for my undergraduate and graduate educational experiences. I graduated
with a BSN and about 8 years later, I completed my PhD in anatomy. My doctoral
dissertation work involved reproductive studies with hamsters, but the only interaction
I have with hamsters now is keeping an occasional one as a pet! My research interests
have evolved to oncology patients and quality of life issues, and I have worked
with a number of masters students on oncology topics. Ive been teaching
since about 1975 and am excited about all the changes that have occurred in education
over the years. In addition to this course for RN students, I teach pathophysiology
to about 120 BSN students in the fall and spring each year. I am also one of two
academic Assistant Deans in the School of Nursing, so I keep busy!
Though we wont be meeting in a classroom, I think you will find lots of opportunity to interact with me and with your classmates as you use the discussion group. Please ask questions, as many as you want, and be assured that probably your classmates have the same questions. I welcome your observations about the class and the topics well be covering. One thing thats really fun about the Web is being able to share current findings about disease and treatments with each other.
If you have comments or questions that you want to address directly to me, use my E-mail (Awingate@kumc.edu). You can also reach me by phone and leave a message (913-588-1634), or make an appointment.
