TIME MANAGEMENTThe standard rule of thumb for study time for college courses is 3 hours of study for each hour spent in class. For example, a 3 credit hour course will require an average of 12 hours per week (3 hours in class and 9 hours outside of class). Internet courses require a similar time commitment. This program will require at least that amount of effort. This is an advanced practice program and as such, expectations of performance on completion are very similar to expectations of medical students. Clinical Time Management – Course schedules list clinical courses “by appt.” Therefore it is important to know the number of hours that this encompasses. KU uses a 1:4 credit hour to clinical hour ratio. One graduate clinical credit hour = 64 hours, 2 credit hours = 128 hours, etc. Therefore a 2 clinical credit course averages 8 hours per week or one day per week (outside of lecture course) for clinical experiences. It is very important to plan your work schedule accordingly. |
